I Went to the Dog Show
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, 2015, was the first dog show I’ve ever attended. All I knew beforehand was what I’d learned from watching the WKC Dog Show on T.V., or from the satire, Best in Show. What I saw was more poignant than I expected. The dogs mostly seemed to be calm, well-cared for, and obedient, rather than anxious and spoiled. Their breeders, owners, and handlers appeared to be focused, dedicated, loving, and proud. How great to see crowds of people united in the cause of unconditional love. It is some times said that dogs don’t really feel love; that they act out of self-interest and survival. I don’t believe this and neither do the countless dog lovers I observed at this, most venerated, dog show in America.
